Indonesia IPIP industrial park pipe racks — 20,000 m anti-corrosion ERW pipe in one month
Anti-Corrosion ERW Straight-Seam Steel Pipes for the Pipe Rack Works of Indonesia IPIP Industrial Park

About the IPIP Project The IPIP Project is located in Pomalaa Town, Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, with a total planned area of 9384.1 hectares approved by Indonesia’s National Land Agency. Leveraging the region’s abundant energy-metal mineral resources such as nickel and cobalt, the park has set the development goal of “building an integrated industrial chain from resource development to a full range of lithium battery materials.” Supported by the Indonesian government, the park was included in Indonesia’s National Strategic Projects (PSN) in 2022. It is a national-level project given priority by the Indonesian government and has also been listed as a Zhejiang Provincial Overseas Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone.

Construction of the industrial park began in November 2024, and site leveling for the production zone started in December. Five functional zones are planned: production, residential, power plant, wharf, and public auxiliary facilities. Phase I covers HPAL hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, precursors, lithium salts, and cathode material production, with a closed-loop lithium battery industrial chain — from mining to battery materials to battery recycling — scheduled for completion by 2030.

The Pomalaa Mine HPAL Project (KNI Project), jointly invested in and built by Huayou Cobalt, Vale, and Ford Motor, is designed to produce 120,000 tons of nickel metal per year. The project has attracted great attention from the Indonesian government — former Indonesian President Joko Widodo attended the signing ceremony and delivered a speech. The project has now entered the construction stage and is expected to commence production by the end of 2026.

Supply Scope by Youcheng Pipeline The anti-corrosion steel pipe supply contract for the pipe rack works of this project was awarded to China Communications Materials Group, with Cangzhou Youcheng Pipeline Technology Co., Ltd. acting as the domestic supplier for the piping works. The scope involves anti-corrosion welded steel pipes for pipe racks, covering dozens of specifications of anti-corrosion ERW straight-seam welded steel pipes totaling more than 20,000 meters, multiple anti-corrosion processes, and thousands of matching pipe fittings.

For exported steel pipes and fittings, packaging is a key difference from domestic supply — especially for contracts covering a wide range of product specifications. This project imposes strict, specification-specific packaging requirements for pipes and fittings of different sizes, involving wooden case packaging, frame packaging, U-rack packaging, pallet packaging, and more. Products of every specification are packed and shipped one-to-one in accordance with the packaging requirements.

In total, the project covers more than 2400 anti-corrosion steel pipes shipped in over 240 truckloads. Completing all fabrication and delivering the goods to the port for consolidation within one month is a comprehensive test of a company’s production organization, quality control, and supply chain coordination. For this project, we assembled a dedicated task force of more than 30 members, with dedicated posts, dedicated personnel, and dedicated responsibilities covering the entire process — from steel plate procurement, pipe production, rust removal, anti-corrosion coating, and quality inspection, to welded support fabrication, packaging, port coordination, and shipment arrangement — ensuring that every steel pipe was delivered on time, in full, and to the required quality.
