Wugang City Rural Water Supply Project, Henan Province — Thousands of Meters of Flexible Socket-Joint TPEP Anti-Corrosion Steel Pipe

Project Background

The rural water supply full-coverage project in Wugang City, Henan Province, covers rural safe drinking water for 10 townships, towns and sub-district offices, 181 administrative villages and a total of 249,000 people. It involves 51 centralized water supply stations, including 2 township water plants each serving 10,000 tonnes/day and 10,000+ people (Tieshan Water Plant and Youfangshan Water Plant) covering 202,110 people, 7 township water plants each serving over 1,000 people covering 23,922 people, and 42 centralized supply stations each serving fewer than 1,000 people covering 20,625 people. Upon implementation of the full-coverage project, 20 sections of aged and severely leaking pipe networks will be renovated, tap water will reach virtually every village in the city, and the tap water penetration rate will reach 99.8%. The networks of 24 large projects will be extended to consolidate old single-village systems and works with insufficient water sources, resolving drinking water difficulties and safety issues for 9,296 people and raising the surface water source rate in rural areas to 88.9%. Once the project is completed, the major outstanding problems in rural water supply across the city will be basically resolved, and drinking water safety for residents will be further enhanced.

Youcheng's Supply for the Project

For this project, DN900 national-standard SSAW spiral steel pipe was used as the base pipe, with a flexible socket-joint connection scheme and TPEP anti-corrosion coating, in a total length of several thousand meters. The supply contract was signed in 2023, and all deliveries were completed progressively in 2024. The project has now been fully installed and put into actual operation. Flexible socket-joint connection is a highly mature joining method. Flexible socket-joint epoxy-coated steel pipe takes high-quality steel pipe as the body: one end is carefully beveled, the other end is expanded (belled), followed by a fine coating process. Ingeniously designed with a T-shaped rubber gasket similar to that of ductile iron pipe, the pipe makes socket-joint joining simple and reliable. It not only retains the excellent properties of epoxy-coated steel pipe, but also incorporates the quick-connection advantage of the flexible socket joints of ductile iron pipes — a perfect combination of the two. The product is designed specifically for drinking water conveyance, with a maximum delivery temperature of 45℃, ensuring safety without worry.
