About the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project
Linking the Yangtze and Huaihe river systems, the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project is one of the flagship projects among China's 172 major water conservancy projects for water conservation and supply. It is a major cross-basin, cross-regional strategic project for water resources allocation and comprehensive utilization, serving functions such as securing water supply, developing Yangtze–Huaihe shipping, and improving the aquatic eco-environments of Chaohu Lake and the Huaihe River. The project runs a total length of 723 km. Building on Phase I, the Phase II project focuses on enhancing urban and rural water supply and irrigation replenishment capacity, so as to strengthen regional water supply security and improve the ecological environment. It comprises two major components: the main water conveyance trunk lines and the backbone water supply works. The Taihe–Jieshou–Linquan Centralized Water Supply Section 1 project is responsible for supplying water to the urban area of Fuyang, Jieshou City and Linquan County. Water is drawn from the Cihuai New River through pressurized pumping stations and diversion culverts. The pumping station has two pump houses with a total of 8 units and an installed capacity of 8,000 kW. The works cover the construction of a new intake, pump houses and water conveyance pipelines. Through the implementation of the Yangtze-to-Huaihe diversion and other water transfer projects, Fuyang City will, by building surface water treatment plants and supporting pipe networks, replace groundwater sources with surface water for both urban and rural supply, while advancing urban–rural water supply integration — achieving, by 2025, the goal of providing residents across the city with higher-quality, healthier surface water and essentially eliminating reliance on groundwater.
About the Taihe–Jieshou–Linquan Centralized Water Supply Project
Project Completed and Water Supplied
On December 30, 2025, the Taihe–Jieshou–Linquan Centralized Water Supply Section 1 of the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Phase II project, undertaken by Sinohydro Bureau 5, achieved full-line water supply. The commissioning ceremony was successfully held at the North Fuyang Booster Pumping Station.
