Nagqu geothermal heating — 10,000 m DN600 PU pre-insulated pipe for a 4,500 m plateau city
Geothermal Heating Project, Southern New District, Seni District, Nagqu, Tibet More Than 10,000 Meters of DN600 PU Pre-insulated Steel Pipe Project Background Nagqu is the highest-altitude city in China, with an average elevation of 4,500 meters and a cold climate, so reliable urban heating is a vital livelihood priority for its residents. Achieving 'coal-free' heating step by step — bringing warmth to people's lives while supporting Tibet's green development — is especially important. Previously, heating in Nagqu relied mainly on coal-fired boilers, with coal transported from Qinghai more than 1,000 km away, pushing heating costs to around RMB 100 per square meter per year. The project actively develops geothermal heating, providing a heat source of no less than 90℃ for the primary heating network, with 100% of the extracted geothermal water recharged back into the ground to ensure clean, environmentally friendly and sustainable development. It adopts a geothermal energy approach — 'extracting heat, not water' — to solve the heating challenge, with the relevant preliminary work now advancing steadily. The project is expected to meet the heating demand of 2 million square meters in 2024. It includes the construction of a new circulation pump house of 391.86 m², 6 box-type heat exchange stations, a 10.5 km heating network, pump house auxiliary works, and the procurement of equipment and instruments.

More Than 10,000 Meters of PU Pre-insulated Steel Pipe
Through open bidding, Cangzhou Youcheng Pipeline Technology Co., Ltd. became the supplier of PU pre-insulated steel pipes for this project in January 2024. The main heating line uses DN600 PU pre-insulated steel pipes with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) outer jacket, and the working pipes are national-standard spiral welded steel pipes, with a total pipeline length of more than 10,000 meters. After the contract was signed, Youcheng Pipeline leveraged its production capacity advantages, running at full capacity to deliver on time and keep the project on schedule.
